PRESS RELEASE
Coca-Cola in Sweden is launching a new packaging for cans. The change is to a narrower and taller can and refers to the 330ml can range for Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite and Bonaqua. Almost 90 percent of all beverages that Coca-Cola European Partners sells in Sweden are produced locally, in Jordbro outside Stockholm.
The can accounts for a significant part of sales and the shares are growing. The historic modernization of the can has involved a large investment and extensive work in decommissioning the old production line and getting the new one in place. The line produces 28 cans per second, which corresponds to 102,000 cans per hour.
- We are looking forward to introducing this new format. In Sweden, we have had the same model on the cans for 47 years and we believe that this new, elegant and more easy-to-grip packaging will appeal to many. In other markets where the new cans have been launched, they have become popular and many prefer the long narrow model, says Samantha Walker, marketing director at Coca-Cola European Partners in Sweden.
Long narrow can - new design
At the same time as the packaging gets a new format, the design of the can has also been updated:
- It is a new design that is in line with our global strategy. The iconic red color of Coca-Cola Original Taste will also be more prominent on Coca-Cola Zero Sugar. The idea is to show that they have the same good taste, but where the consumer can choose with or without sugar. We want to be even clearer in showing that Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is the sugar-free alternative to Coca-Cola Original Taste and highlights "sugar-free" in a more prominent way on the packaging, says Olivia Enquist, marketing director at Coca-Cola AB.
The new cans will be available in both the grocery store and the service store at the beginning of April.
