The Coco-Cola Company
Coca-Cola is a cola-flavored carbonated soft drink produced by The Coca-Cola Company. Coca-Cola is sold in different variants in countries all over the world, and is one of the world's strongest brands.
The birth of Coca-Cola is attributed to pharmacist Dr. John Stith Pemberton who in 1886 produced a caramel colored liquid which he then mixed with carbonated water. He carried a jug of the new product down the street to Jacobs' Pharmacy, where it was sampled, pronounced "excellent" and placed on sale for five cents a glass as a soda fountain drink.
The world's first Coca-Cola was served on May 8, 1886 at Jacobs' Pharmacy in Atlanta, Georgia.
After Dr. John Stith Pemberton died in 1888, the businessman Asa Griggs Candler bought the rights to the recipe, for an amount rumored to be $2,300. In 1892, he founded The Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. By 1913, one in nine Americans had tasted it.
As competitors began to appear in the market, Asa Griggs Candler sold the rights to various breweries to bottle Coca-Cola. It was the start of "The Coca-Cola system", a franchise partnership that exists today between the company and over 250 bottling companies worldwide.
In 1916, the world-famous Coca-Cola glass bottle with its characteristic shape was introduced, the purpose of which was to distinguish the brand from its competitors. It was created in 1915 by the Swede Alexander Samuelsson, after The Coca‑Cola Company announced a design competition in the USA. Alexander Samuelsson's name is on the patent as he led the design work that resulted in the iconic bottle. 100 years later, it can still be easily identified by people around the world.
When the United States entered World War II, Coca-Cola decided to make its drink available to all serving soldiers - regardless of where they were in the world. The initiative created a global demand for the Coca-Cola drink and caused the number of countries with bottling facilities to double from the mid-1940s until the 1960s.
The Coca-Cola Company introduced Diet Coke to great fanfare in 1982,
following another low-calorie cola called Tab that was produced in 1963. It was the first new drink since Coca-Cola's creation in 1886 to use the Coca-Cola trademark and the product quickly overtook the company's existing diet cola, TaB, in sales.
In 1992, Coca-Cola had its 100th Anniversary.
In 2005, the The Coca-Cola Company released its next iconic low-cal soft drink without sugar: Coca-Cola Coke Zero. Coke Zero, also known as Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, is a popular zero-calorie soft drink that aims to provide the iconic taste of Coca-Cola without the added sugar or calories.
Coca-Cola Light Taste (Diet Coke) and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar (Coke Zero) are Coca-Cola's main products of sugar free cola soft drinks.
During Coca-Cola's first year, they sold nine bottles each day, but today, Coca-Cola sells around 1,9 billion bottles a day.
