PRESS RELEASE
The previously very successful collaboration between Coca-Cola Sweden AB and the Swedish Football Association has now been extended, with the sights set on the Swedish women's national team and the coming summer's WC. The agreement has been extended until 2020 and Coca-Cola is, as before, the exclusive beverage partner in the non-alcoholic ready to drink category with the brands Coca-Cola® and bonaqua®. The collaboration is also strengthened by Powerade® receiving exclusive rights in the functional and sports drink category.
The agreement was already signed in 2017, with the ambition of a long-term collaboration at both association and national team level. The 2018 football summer was a success and for Coca-Cola it is a matter of course to extend the collaboration with an equal investment in the women's national team as in the men's national team.
- Football unites people, from the first football kicks in the home club to the community in front of exciting World Cup matches. It feels obvious to us that with the extension of our collaboration, we should give the ladies the attention they deserve for their fine sporting achievements. We are excitedly looking forward to the upcoming soccer summer, says Olivia Enquist, marketing manager at Coca-Cola AB.
Last year was a successful football year where Coca-Cola activated associations around the country, as well as the Swedish men's national team during their World Cup journey. The Swedish Football Association encourages the upcoming involvement.
- For the past two years, we have had a very good collaboration with Coca-Cola and are happy that we are now extending the collaboration. Through the reinforcement with Powerade, there will be an even closer collaboration with our national teams because the national teams will use Powerade for recovery. That Coca-Cola invests more in the women's national team is a strong and important signal that contributes to us being able to lift women's football even further, says Mikael Jiffer, Marketing & Sales Manager at the Swedish Football Association.
The agreement between Coca-Cola AB and the Swedish Football Association gives Coca-Cola exclusive rights to create unique campaigns and build a presence around Swedish football during the agreement period. New in the agreement is that from now on Coca-Cola also gets exclusive rights in the functional and sports drink category, which means that Powerade will be the national team's new sports drink.
Since the mid-70s, Coca-Cola has been a global partner to Fifa, and the renewed agreement between Coca-Cola Sweden AB and the Swedish Football Association was put into effect in connection with the World Cup draw on 8 December 2018.
