PRESS RELEASE
As a boost to the twentieth edition of the FIFA World Cup™ in Brazil, Coca-Cola is enabling a tour of the championship's legendary trophy to people around the world. In Sweden, it is Kiruna that has the honor of receiving the trophy. An exciting encounter between the rhythms, colors and warmth of Brazil and the Arctic landscape north of the Arctic Circle. Coca-Cola hopes that the visit will inspire an active lifestyle and surprise the people of Kiruna.
Coca-Cola has for many years supported the FIFA World Cup™ and is continuously working to get more people moving, through its commitment. Therefore, Coca-Cola chooses not only to support football in Brazil, but also to motivate people to an active lifestyle through the passion that exists for football.
- Soccer is the world's biggest sport and we at Coca-Cola want this summer's World Cup to be a championship where everyone feels involved. With the help of the joy of football, we want to inspire more people to move, because we believe that an active lifestyle and joy go hand in hand, says Eric Nilsson at Coca-Cola Sweden.
The well-known trophy for the FIFA World Cup™ visits Sweden between February 28 and March 2, which will be the only stop in the Nordics on the world tour that visits a total of 90 different countries. On March 1, the trophy will land north of the Arctic Circle for the first time. Despite the bitterly cold winter, Kiruna residents will have the opportunity to play soccer on a green outdoor soccer field. Kiruna residents are also invited to participate in a colorful Brazilian carnival that will go to the city hall where the World Cup trophy will be displayed.
- This is a good opportunity for us to showcase everything that is great about Kiruna. The beautiful nature and world-famous destinations such as the ICEHOTEL, the mine and the space station. We are very proud that Coca-Cola has chosen Kiruna as the Swedish stop on the cup's world tour, says Kristina Zackrisson, municipal councilor in Kiruna.
The day after the trophy has landed in Kiruna, it will be taken to the well-known ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi to finish a collaboration between the hotel and Coca-Cola that started already last year. Then South America's foremost graffiti artist, Speto, visited the hotel to design the reception. Speto has also designed the graphic style for Coca-Cola and their FIFA World Cup™ activation.
Movement is Happiness
However, the commitment to contribute to an active lifestyle extends beyond this summer's FIFA World Cup™. Through the "Movement is Happiness" campaign, Coca-Cola has committed to activating more people around Europe by working with various grassroots projects for several years to come. In Sweden, Coca-Cola has recently signed a cooperation agreement with the Swedish Swimming Association. It is the largest and most long-term sports investment that Coca-Cola has made in Sweden. The work to support various swimming activities is extensive, spans several years and is divided into three main tracks – exercise, swimming skills and an elite effort before the Olympics in Rio de Janerio 2016.
