PRESS RELEASE
Coca-Cola wants to pay tribute to healthcare heroes who are fighting during the pandemic by offering a Christmas lunch. A total of 4,000 employees in elderly care receive a free meal via a digital coupon from Foodora. The initiative is worth approximately one million kroner and aims to show appreciation to the hard-working healthcare system and at the same time support the affected restaurant industry.
After the outbreak of the coronavirus, the burden on healthcare and healthcare personnel has increased significantly. Now Coca-Cola wants to reward and celebrate healthcare workers by offering a free Christmas lunch. Coca-Cola gives SEK 250 to employees in elderly care to buy a meal via the online company Foodora. The purpose is to pay tribute to the efforts carried out during the pandemic, as well as to spread warmth and concern ahead of this year's Christmas celebrations.
- The Swedish healthcare system works under extraordinary conditions, which is at its peak at Christmas time. Usually a period of recovery and time for loved ones. We want to show our gratitude for the healthcare staff's hard work, at a time when it might be needed a little extra, says Frida Keane, communications director at Coca-Cola AB.
Coca-Cola buys digital coupons from Foodora, which offers contactless delivery of food in 48 Swedish cities. The coupons are distributed to 4,000 employees in elderly care together with the care company Vardaga. The recipient can order food of their choice to a value of SEK 250. A total of approximately one million kroner worth of food is donated. In addition to showing appreciation for the healthcare staff's efforts, the initiative aims to support the affected restaurant industry.
- The restaurant industry has been hit hard by the necessary restrictions that the pandemic entails. The donation of Christmas lunches to healthcare staff via Foodora is a way for us to support local actors. We hope that this initiative contributes to increased take-away sales, so that more people in the industry have the opportunity to get through this tough period, says Frida Keane.
In order to help and make a difference, Coca-Cola has implemented several other initiatives during the spring. Among them, the Swedish Red Cross has been awarded four million kroner from The Coca-Cola Foundation for relief efforts linked to covid-19.
